The American Association of Professional Appraisers (AAPA) is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, independence, and professionalism in the appraisal industry. Our Code of Ethics establishes clear expectations for ethical conduct and protects the interests of clients, consumers, and the public.
AAPA members pledge to:
Act with Integrity and Independence
Provide unbiased, objective opinions and avoid any conflicts of interest that could compromise professional judgment. Members do not accept contingent compensation, undisclosed financial interests, or referral arrangements that could influence appraisal outcomes.
Serve Clients in Good Faith
Perform services only within areas of competence and base all opinions on honest professional judgment. Members communicate clearly about scope, assumptions, and limitations, and deliver accurate, well-supported valuations.
Protect Confidential Information
Safeguard client and property information and disclose appraisal results only with proper authorization or when required by law.
Use Technology Responsibly
Apply modern tools and data sources with professional oversight and maintain secure handling of digital records and reports.
Represent Qualifications Truthfully
Ensure all advertising, marketing, and public communications are accurate, transparent, and not misleading.
Support Public Trust
Conduct business in a manner that strengthens confidence in the appraisal profession and report serious ethical violations when appropriate.
All AAPA members agree to follow this Code and help maintain the integrity, reputation, and professionalism of the appraisal industry.
